Two Cities' Worth of Housing in One
Spray foam insulation in De Pere covers a wide range of houses because the city grew in waves. The east and west sides were separate cities until they merged in 1890, and the housing near the river on both sides is old. Then came a big postwar push: two De Pere neighborhoods, the Mansion Street World War II Defense Housing district and the Daviswood Ranch Homes district, were added to the National Register in 2021. After that, growth kept going, with population up about 24% in the 1990s alone.
Postwar ranches
Small ranches from the 1940s and 1950s often have low attics where it is hard to get full depth near the eaves, and basements with bare rim joists. We seal the ceiling, foam the shallow eaves where loose fill will not fit, and spray the rim.
Newer homes
Homes built since the 1990s generally have reasonable attic insulation but may have cold bonus rooms, drafty kneewalls and rim joists covered only with a batt. Those are the spots we check first.
A tight market
De Pere's 2020 homeowner vacancy rate was just 0.7%, so most owners here are staying put and improving what they have, which makes insulation one of the more practical upgrades.
Planning a De Pere job
We usually start with the attic, because that is where most heat escapes, then the rim joist. For a postwar ranch, the attic and rim together are often a single-day job. Newer homes on the edges of the city tend to need fewer areas, so their quotes are shorter. If you plan to finish the lower level or add a room, call before the framing goes up so the walls can be insulated while they are open.

De Pere Questions
Can you insulate a postwar ranch attic with a low roof?
Yes. We seal the ceiling, use foam or baffles at the shallow eaves and blow loose fill across the open middle. Low attics take more care but are very doable.
Are historic district homes limited in what I can do?
Insulation inside the house is usually not affected. If you plan exterior changes in a historic district, check with the city first.
Do newer De Pere homes need spray foam?
Often not everywhere. Rim joists and bonus rooms are the usual weak spots, and we only quote what makes a difference.
How cold does it get in De Pere?
Weather here tracks Green Bay's, where 1991 to 2020 normals show 19 nights a year below zero. That long cold season is why sealing matters as much as depth.
